Cursed Cocktails is S.L. Rowland's first foray into cozy fantasy and our first peak into his world of Aedrea. If you are an audio listener like me you will be treated to narration by Eric Jason Martin, who I believe does all of S.L. Rowlands books, and makes for some nice easy listening especially while doing chores or something around the house. As I get older I start to sympathize more and more with Rhoren who is over playing the hero and just wants to retire after his long years of service. Cursed Cocktails reinforces many of the tropes established by what I consider the first giant in this sub-genre, the formerly indie Legends & Lattes, with the tales of Aedrea fitting nicely into the slice-of-life/cozy fantasy genre. For those of you who don't care for romance in your fantasy, that aspect is very light and won't detract from the overall story. As an added bonus, you may even pick up a new favorite drink!
At this point S.L. Rowland has built up a fairly decent back catalog and I highly recommend his Pangea Online and Sentenced to Troll series which are now complete and come in 3 book omnibus bundles to boot. I also highly recommend his stand alone novella Path to Villainy: An NPC Kobold's Tale if you are up for a change of pace.
Now to get started on the finale of "Sentenced to Troll" to get my Lemmy fix!
