Master of Puppets: When good puppets get violent

ree

For today's review we have Master of Puppets books 1&2 by the extremely talented Eric Ugland.

For those of you living under a rock Eric is the author of the hugely popular, and two of my favorite series, The Good Guys & The Bad Guys. Eric has taken a bit of a detour from Vuldranni with his new series and has recruited the ever talented Nick Podehl for the narration. Knowing these two things this series is pretty much guaranteed to be a slam dunk.

I can't recommend the audio version enough as Nick does a masterful job with the voices. I slammed through each book in just over a day at my customary 1.4x speed but I have a serious listening problem and you can feel free to enjoy them at a slower pace. Book 1 is really an adventure of discovery for the MC Del who has been thrust into this new world in a strange puppet like body. Nothing works the way it should and everything, I mean everything, is out to eat him. Once he realizes he has been banished to the trash heap, the literal garbage disposal of a massive tower, he's determined to reach the top and sucker punch the mage that thrust him into this mess. We begin what I can only hope to be a tower climb of hilarious and epic proportions. If you took a break between books 1 and 2 I highly recommend you circle back to book 1 for a refresher because you pick right back up in the thick of things. Our buddy Del along with Oscar the Fark and his rat buddy Sterling are in for a world of trouble. Ever wonder what would happen if your favorite muppets ended up in the movie Gladiator or maybe more accurately Spartacus? Prepare to find out! Caught between the power struggle of the various factions on the early floors Del is left wondering what he has stumbled into as he's squashed, smashed, and hides from "the Cleaners". I am excited for book 3 and look forward to Del exploring his powers, uncovering the purpose of the tower and what game the "they/them" in charge are playing.
